Article Text: A panic disorder is characterized by the appearance of severe and sudden episodes of very intense symptoms such as accelerated heart beat, intense sweating, limb shaking, confusion, terror, the feeling of death imminence or craziness, sense alertness, pupil dilation, choking the impulse to run or scream and so on. Unless there is a real direct cause that triggers the panic attack, the diagnosis of panic disorder is very likely. Usually, there is a casual dimension to such an ailment that starts with some accidental or incidental bout.
While it takes a minute or two to get to its climax, the panic attack will require at least thirty minutes if not full hours to pass away completely. The specificity of an panic disorder results from the frequency of the attacks, usually of an unequal intensity. Thus, one gets to suffer from several such bouts every month, which is enough to feel terrorized and threatened all the time, thus worsening the condition and deepening the fear.
Most patients of panic attack disorder are women between twenty and thirty. The problem has a lower frequency rate in older or younger age groups; plus the common cause behind it is some form of separation trauma the patient went through as a child. An panic disorder may start abruptly or gradually depending on how the symptoms appear.
There is often a diagnosis difficulty with many cases of panic disorder because of the inconclusive nature of certain medical tests. Many people thus spend their years looking for solutions with various specialists until they finally get to the bottom of the problem. Unless correct evaluation and diagnosis is made, the patient could go through a whole ordeal. On the other hand, many diagnosed patients start avoiding certain situations for fear of developing an episode.
Such considerations will keep panic disorder sufferers away from social reunions, restaurants, church services, shopping centers, elevators or airplanes. If not treated right, an panic disorder could ruin one's life, causing depression and destroying all the good parts of that person's existence. Plus, the cases of self-medication, alcohol abuse and suicide are also related to the impossibility to cope with and its symptoms.
