A data entry typist is often known by other names: word processor, data worker or transcriber in the majority of times. Good training and even experience are necessary for a position related to a company's data entry department. Thus, a typist will naturally have to type very well: from seventy words per minute upwards. Depending on the standards you judge things by, speed of work is relevant in the context of processing huge amounts of data in a special time interval. Who is suitable for a task as a typist?

Lots of businesses prefer high school graduates owing to the larger exposure of the younger generations to computer applications. Moreover, the constant use of electronic devices increases the speed of usage and the efficiency of the activities. Nevertheless, there is no age or education limitation for a typist as long as he/she has the right skills. Presently, there are many smart computer programs that help one increase the typing speed by enabling the use of all the fingers on the keyboard. It is actually considered a problem if you can only type with two or three fingers only, and no company will find you competitive or skilled enough to hire you as a typist.

Therefore, do evaluate your computer skills very well before applying for a home freelancing career that involves proficient data entry. Starting from these considerations on the attributes of a typist, you should not trust all the ads that require no skills at all. Maybe fast computer typing is not such a special skill, but it definitely represents an essential difference when talking about efficient rapid data entry.

Consequently, a typist will usually have to be evaluated by means of a test in order to have the skills assessed objectively. Even if you plan to work from home exclusively and you think that you consider that you can devote your time freely to the project, always keep in mind the fact that there is still a deadline to be respected. There could also be other terms and conditions imposed by the company that hires your freelancing services, and they too have to be taken into consideration. Hence, don't take any work element lightly or you may have to pay the price for overlooking it.
